If there is one thing all athletes (as well as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet) can agree on, it’s that to reach the highest level, you need Focus. A big part of this focus includes nutrition for athletes.

Qualities of a good athlete

There are so many elements that make a great athlete. Technical capability is what we observers see at the end of the day. It’s the Federer-like finesse of that smooth, elongated cross-court backhand. It’s Axel Paulsen’s Axel jump in ice skating. In our case, it’s Sammy Schuling’s Aerial twist and half-pipe grind.

What separates the best athletes from the rest

Technical capability is the outcome of a commitment to one’s craft. It’s a never-ending journey towards perfection. What separates the good from the great is Focus: the dedication to continuous improvement of one’s craft and its prioritization above all other distractions in life.

What provides Focus for Sammy is passion. Free-skiing is an exhilarating sport. It’s a rush of adrenaline – from the moment you jump out the gate your heart is pounding. The higher you jump, the more freedom you have to explore your body’s capabilities – the twists, the turns, the grinds, the grabs, the stalls… it’s a dance in the air. The community pushes each other to explore the body’s limits and elevate the sport.

Sleep, diet, and exercise

To get to this level, it is crucial to have the fundamentals covered: sleep, diet, and exercise. You need your body fully awake, nourished, and prepared in order to endure the pounding on the joints and the stress of climbing a new height or exploring a dangerous new trick.

Best diet for athletic performance

Sammy eats Ladera’s granola because it provides optimal nutrition for athletes and helps get him ready for the day. The mix of whole grains, fibers, sugars, oils, and proteins in our Vanilla Quinoa Granola provides the right mix of short-term, medium-term, and long-term energy that keeps you energized. The time-release of energy is what’s important, a sugary breakfast will burn too fast, and a bowl of oatmeal too slow.

We are proud to support this amazing athlete and are excited to see where he goes next on his journey!
